Walking for Your Health
Walking has many health benefits and provides a low impact workout. Walking 2mph for 30 minutes per day can burn 75 calories and walking at 3mph for 30 mins can burn up to 99 calories. Walking also lowers your risk of heart disease and can prevent dementia, which affects one in 14 people over 65 and one in six over 80. It can even be an effective mood stabilizer as it releases feel-good endorphins which can reduce stress and anxiety.
"It's very similar to traditional psychotherapy," he tells WebMD, "except you are walking while you are talking about issues. I have found that bringing a little bit of movement enriches the counseling session. My clients are intrigued by the idea and are naturally drawn to being outside."
